Beginners Yoga: 4-Week Intro Program

Jessica Dewar Yoga’s Beginners Yoga: 4-Week Intro Program is a dynamic, detailed and exciting course for anyone interested in beginning their journey with yoga. It is also the perfect opportunity for current yoga students to deepen and expand their practice. Drawing upon the passion, skills and expertise of our senior teachers, you will be taught to practice yoga with clarity, energy and confidence.

Students can expect individual attention, personal development, mentoring and assistance from experienced and conscientious teachers; a strong foundation in yoga asana (postures) and an introduction to yoga philosophy.

Each course runs for 4 weeks over which the basic yoga postures will be introduced and consolidated. On completion of the course students will feel confident to continue with weekly group classes. For more information about what to expect, see Beginners Yoga.

Yin + Myofascial Release: A Journey To The Deep

This workshop will introduce you to the self-care concept of myofascial release.

Fascia and Myofascia (fascia within the muscle) is a densely woven elastic type of connective tissue that supports most structures within the body. Restrictions in the fascia, that tightness or stiffness you feel, can be due to habitual patterns, repetitive movements, prolonged positioning or secondary to trauma, surgery or inflammation.

A combination of deep, nourishing yin yoga holds targeting the fascia and the application of myofascial release techniques, will help you to just-let-go. Using an array of props, you will explore your whole body, paying particular attention to common problem areas such as tightness or stiffness in the hips, shoulders and neck. We will also discuss how tension in our physical body can manifest from or contribute to a build-up of emotional tension.

If you’re seeking a deeper understanding of where you hold physical tension in your body and how to incorporate release techniques into your everyday practice, then this workshop is for you.

As our anatomy, physiology and needs are so different, we will go through a range of techniques, modifications and options to find what works best for you. Expect to feel the feels during this workshop, applying pressure to sensitive and vulnerable areas of the body can be quite an intense but deeply nourishing experience. Get ready to journey to the deep.

Sound Bath Immersion: A Story of the Senses

Close your eyes and open your ears as we journey into sound and the senses.

Mona Ruijs will facilitate a sound immersive experience with gongs, quartz crystal bowls, Himalayan singing bowls and various other sound tools that are designed to induce states of profound physical relaxation, meditation and general wellbeing.

Lying down on mats you will be saturated and cocooned in the live sounds as you enter inside the wonderful world of the sound bath. The joy of a sound bath is the opportunity for you to lay, listen deeply with your whole body and go inwards, as you may access a consciousness that lies between sleeping and waking. Here you may be transported to states of stillness, meditation, bliss, altered states of awareness, and self-healing.

Sound bath participants variously report powerful bodily sensations and brain states often accompanied by creative thought, rich imagery, insights, and feelings of rest and timelessness. This unique composition of frequencies and harmonics produces a soundscape that washes over you, with the intention to release bodily tension and produce a relaxation response lowering stress, cortisol and adrenaline levels.

We invite you to explore new ways of listening and responding, as the ear hears, the brain listens and the body senses vibrations.

Restorative Yoga Workshop

Nurture your body, mind, and soul with an afternoon of profound relaxation and stillness through restorative yoga

During this 2 hour session, you will be guided using bolsters, blocks, and blankets to assist in bringing your body into a state of complete relaxation. You will learn to comfortably maintain variations in asana over longer periods of time (between 5 - 15 minutes). Developed in combination with deep restorative breathing, this practice will help you to let go physically, emotionally, and mentally to replenish your energy levels.

The profound state of relaxation we enter during a restorative yoga session calms the nervous system, balances our heart rate, and regulates the functioning of our internal organs. It helps to reduce symptoms of depression, chronic fatigue and anxiety, and can improve sleep patterns.

Practical Pranayama: Learning to Breathe

From instant calming to greater self-awareness, pranayama is an incredibly important part of a regular yoga practice, offering students an amazing tool to manage overwhelm and maintain focus – be during your yoga practice and in day to day life.

Pranayama techniques offer quick and effective ways to stabilize your mood and balance your energy levels. Pranayama also offers insights into the inner workings of your mind that you might otherwise miss if you’re practicing asana alone.

Quietness, stillness, and subtlety are much easier to glimpse and grasp in pranayama than they are in asana. The movements of the asanas, although beneficial in many ways, are also a distraction. When you sit or lie down in pranayama, the obvious physical movement of the body is gone, and you can concentrate on more inner qualities.

Jessica Dewar Yoga's Practical Pranayama: Learning to Breathe is an introductory look at some of the key Pranayama practices the great yogis of the world have used for thousands of years to purify the body and strengthen the mind. Trained in Mysore India, Jessica will share with you traditional techniques which have been handed down through the ages to those willing and eager to learn.

Kid's Yoga - Term 4 (age 4-10)

Kids yoga lessons are very active and will challenge your little ones balance, strength, flexibility, flow, creativity, attention, concentration, memory, mind, and a lot more! All the learning is done through stories to keep children intrigued and excited.

Our Kids Yoga Classes are a beautiful way to introduce the philosophy of yoga to your children. Specifically, our classes will teach  your child:

  • About the asanas (postures)

  • How to understand, deepen and control their emotions

  • How to develop healthy relationships, with themselves and others

An early introduction to yoga, one that sparks imagination, focus and intrigue, is one of the greatest gifts we can offer to our children and our community.
