Be the richest you can be. So simple.

August 16, 2015 Jessica Dewar

Do you; feel depressed, anxious, lethargic, overweight, always seem to be unwell and taking antibiotics which don’t seem to work any more? If you’ve answered “Yes” to one or more of these, then keep reading.

I will never forget the day, and person, who explained to me that energy was like a currency. The most valuable currency in the world. When I thought of energy this way it completely transformed how I thought about my body, health, what it means to eat cleanly. It suddenly occurred to me that even with all the money in the world, it is valueless if I don’t have the energy to enjoy it. We often hear stories about movie stars being depressed, overweight, drug addicted. You know the ones I’m talking about. We often assume they have money, so what’s the problem? Surely this should bring happiness to their lives??? The reality is, this is very much not true. To feel unwell in some form or another limits us from experiencing the true brilliance of this life. For me, I look at the activities I want to be able to share effortlessly as I grow older and so I make it a point of ensure my daily habits will support me to do this. Ask yourself: Do you want to be able to play with your children or grandchildren as you get older, to take evening strolls along the beach, follow your dreams and take real steps to make them come true, connect deeply with your loved ones? To make any of this happen, we need energy!

Poor energy can be attributed to many things,  all of which are almost always impacted by two primary components of our lives. Nutrition and Movement. So, here are a couple of simple solutions we can start implementing right away:

First things first: Assess your diet. How much of it is plant based? How many pieces of fruit do you eat per day? What proportion of your diet is made up of preservative riddled foods?

It’s SO important to eat cleanly. Natural foods have AMAZINGLY HIGH levels of antioxidants, nutrients, vitamins etc etc which give us the energy we need to enjoy this world (among other phenomenal benefits like cancer fighting properties). Think cave man days - we ate what was in the natural environment and this was enough. It gave sufficient nutrients to grow, hunt, build shelter and so on. If it’s not natural, PUT IT DOWN. You’re body doesn’t need it and I promise it will thank you for it later.

Next is movement: Even just a short walk up and down the street is enough to get the blood pumping, endorphins moving and the muscles strengthened. If yoga is something you want to try but never did because images of advanced practitioners puts you off - firstly stop looking at those pictures. They won’t help. You need to begin slowly, to sit on your mat and just stretch it out. Notice how the body feels, where the tension is, and then work through those feelings. It’s the noticing and listening to the body which is important in yoga, or any movement for that matter, not how high you can lift your leg in the air.

With that, take a few moments to honestly evaluate your diet and exercise habits. Then make one change at a time, even if it’s the introduction of one apple a day. Slowly slowly you will begin to notice the NEW YOU with energy that will see you skidding through to the finish line.

Namaste xx
